Author Interview – Aisha Darwesh
How long have you been going to CLC?I’ve been going to CLC since August 2011 (and have loved every minute of it!).
What do you enjoy the most about writing for CLC Starter? What I enjoy most about writing for CLC Starter is getting the opportunity to really marinate in the verses I’m writing about. It’s amazing to see the revelation God blesses you with when you spend a little extra time in the word and prayer.
If you had to comment on your writing style, how would you describe it?I would describe my writing style as simple, yet packed with truth. It’s also highly relational and revelatory. My one desire and goal for writing is for people to feel closer to God after reading my devotional. If it doesn’t evoke that response, then it really doesn’t matter what I wrote.
Tell everyone your favorite verse and also favorite book of the Bible? This is really hard to narrow down, but if I had to pick one, my favorite verse in the Bible is Ephesians 3:17 “so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love…”My favorite book in the Bible is Galatians because it really drives home the grace and fruitfulness we have in Christ.
Favorite Christian book that you would recommend? As a true CLC’er, I would highly recommend anything written by C.S. Lewis! If I had to pick just one book, Mere Christianity I also really enjoy The Practice of the Presence if God, by Brother Lawrence.
Favorite non-Christian book that you would recommend?12 Rules for Life, by Jordan B. Peterson.
If someone would want to get started with writing, what would be your one recommendation?Start by reading as much as you can. Even if it’s just 10 pages a day, try to read something. Writers usually refer to other great works. Also, if you want you be a writer, don’t wait until you’re inspired to write. As they say at Nike, just do it! Writing is as much a discipline as it is an art. Schedule regular time to write, whether it’s 10 minutes a day or an hour a week, block the time off on your schedule and stay with it!
Tell us your favorite hobby (besides writing)?I love staying fit and active. Whether it’s the group exercise classes at the YMCA or running in the park, I love getting my heart rate up and experiencing the rush of endorphins that follow! I also love meeting friends for coffee or a meal and having a good conversation.
